Energy supplier

Dimming when your supplier asks for it.

Coming soon, once net metering ends. You can already give permission in the app.

Net metering ends

The end of net metering

On 1 January 2027 the net metering scheme (salderingsregeling) will be abolished. As a solar panel owner, you will then no longer receive a free kWh in the evening or at night for every kWh you feed in during the day.

Until 2027

This affects your energy bill. Under net metering, your energy supplier is required to supply electricity free of charge at times when it is expensive (high demand / in the evening), in exchange for the energy you feed in at times when electricity has little value (high supply / during sunny hours). With the growing number of solar panels, energy suppliers face ever higher costs from this mandatory free supply outside sunny hours, and for several years now they have passed these costs on to net-metering households through feed-in charges.

From 1 January 2027

From 1 January 2027 net metering ends, and as a solar panel owner you will no longer receive free electricity outside sunny hours in exchange for what you fed in during the day. Instead, you will receive a feed-in tariff per kWh fed in, which will be very low (a few cents per kWh at most).

After 2027

Dimming solar panels after net metering ends

When, from 1 January 2027, feeding in earns little or nothing, dimming your installation (that is, reducing the electricity you feed in) can lower your energy bill. This is the case, for example, during quarter-hours with imbalance (more feed-in than consumption) on the national grid, or during periods of high supply / negative market prices for electricity.

You give permission for dimming on behalf of your energy supplier in the app.

  1. 2026

    Tests and validation

In 2026 we are running tests and validations for this, so that solar panel owners can benefit from a lower energy bill as soon as net metering ends, by giving permission for dimming on behalf of their energy supplier.

  2. Spring 2027

    Minimal feed-in

We are working with energy suppliers to make this “minimal feed-in” application a reality towards spring 2027.
